Default starter spacer

i'm looking for a spacer for my starter for a 289, c4 transmission stang. do they exist? i put a new flywheel on and the counter weight is hitting the starter rim and just below the starter gear resulting in a knocking noise when turning the engine and metal shaving at the bottom of the bellhousing. also, the counter weight actually snapped off halfway and i have to get it welded back on.[:@] so, rather than replacing the new flywheel, i figured i'd just space out the starter. thanks.

Oreilly's will carry a shim kit. I would make sure that you have BOTH drain pulgs lined up with holes in the flywheel. There are 3 holes in the flywheel because the weight is weilded over the 4th one usually. So if u lined up only one drain plug the other could be pushing the weight outward causing it to hit.

Your starter fits into the hole very snugly, so I would suspect the flywheel is not properly fitted, and not the other way around. Putting shims on starters is asking for trouble.
