Default Dream 289 engine

so, i'm going to rebuild the engine in my 66 mustang and i've been thinking. if you could rebuild your stock 289 engine into your dream engine, what parts would you use?
for the sake of this thread there is no limit on time or money. just that you can only use already existing aftermarket parts.

Get a 302 and stroke it to 347. That way you can always go back to the 289 for a "numbers matching car". The 347 can be built as anything from a daily driver with 350 hp to a racing engine with close to 500 hp that would not have good street manners.

@ Pauls:
Your suggestion only proves one thing. That i'm telepathic, because i knew someone was gonna go there lol.
ok so, 302 to 347 is a possibility but how about the 289?

I hate these threads, money really is not an object and you have $10K to put into a motor?

sorry it bothers you, and no i don't have unlimited funds. but i am going to put some cash into the engine (rebuilding it anyhow) and was wondering what you all would put in an ideal engine. gives me an idea of what to look into

What's the budget? I don't mean to get on your case but you say no limit on money then you say you don't have unlimited funds. This thread would be much more productive if you set a budget. "My" ideal engine will probably run close to $10K seeing what I have in parts for the 302 I'm re-building now. There are a number of people here that have spent more than that.

Why not just phrase it in a way that would get you answers that would actually help you? People here are very budget conscious and will help you reach your goal.

Buy a good set of heads and ceramic coated headers and you may have enough left over for a gasket kit?

3k will need to be planned out carefully to complete a true rebuild.

I am doing new carb, intake, cobra valve covers and air filter and shorty headers. This and a few other cheap mods and my pockets are smoked. I would like to learn how to port my stock heads and intake when the time comes. I would go for some afr heads but I feel like that's opening a lot of other doors that cost lots of money to close. But if I did a dream motor I would think a 351 stroked to 427 with all the fixens would be fun! Good luck!
