Default Power locks, trunk, theft deterrent

I've seen some stuff mentioned in older posts, but what's out there these days for a 65 to add power locks, a trunk popper, along with a decent theft deterrent (2 way sounds nice) for a reasonable price. I don't want the bling, just simple and reliable which is the key. I don't want remote start and even starter interrupt won't be used.

Locks are for honest people, Thieves don't care about a lock, they would just break your window and rip out your back seat and get into your trunk. Save your money, park your car in a "safe" place, don't leave valuables in your car.
If I was going to steal something from your car I would just get a flatbed wrecker and take the whole car.

I'm a believer is doing whatever I can within reason and $ wise to slow the crook down or make them think of breaking into another car instead, if not why even lock the car or put the windows up?

I installed a cabinet lock for everyday and loop a gun lock through the hood latch of my '67 if I'm going to be away from the car. I have a universal electric trunk lock solenoid waiting to install. The electric trunk lock is for convenience vs. theft protection. I plan to install an alarm with 2 way pager.

I had a car with 2 way page, my pager went off when I was 3 houses away, found legs sticking out of my window, someone got a free trip to the ER then jail. That was well worth the cost of my drivers window to me and the investment in the alarm, since had I not had it I would have gotten no satisfaction and would have incurred more damage to the car. How is it better to have nothing?

If someone tries to illegally tow my car and my pager goes off there are plenty of free trips to the ER available. The number of marked and registered tow trucks that are driving around stealing everyones cars are pretty limited. They tend to stick out a bit being so large and the big signs on the doors, side, phone number, etc. I'd like to see statistics on the number of illegal tow & strips reported.

Oh and as Jake posted you can't beat the trunk monkey for cleanliness.

The best insurance you can afford if they want you're car bad enough it will be gone.I drive a repo tow truck it takes 30 sec to take a car by the time you wake up and look out I'm long gone. The vent windows can be opened with a screw driver reach in open the door hot wire it and drive off.

Ask a question, get a lecture... Let's rephrase. I want power locks. I want a power trunk release. I hate scratching the thing with keys. Since I'll be using a remote system, it might as well tell me if someone is tampering with it. Now, who makes the better stuff without too high of a price? I'm well aware nothing is theft proof, but I go out of my way making YOUR stuff EASIER to steal. When we're camping, whose jet skis are you going to steal? Mine, locked to the trailer with the trailer chained to the rear bumper of my camper, or the neighbor's not hooked to anything next to the road?? Get it? Crooks are lazy scumbag cowards. When given a choice, they'll choose the easy target belonging to the unarmed owner. That'll be my neighbor. With that said, how about those power lock and trunk actuators?

I don't think anyone cares if you put power locks in your car or not, They were merely trying to tell you that locks don't work, Just go to any parts house and order them.
I think a car being stolen (or broke into) has a lot to do with the neighborhood you are in, They could park one of those Bait cars, running with the doors open in my neighborhood and it would just run out of gas, then the homeowners association would have it towed off.

I haven't researched alarms by brand lately so I'd probably search out a car stereo forum and see what brand is most liked. I'll be looking for the same thing a simple alarm w/o many bells/whistles but a 2 way pager for sure.
I haven't looked at power locks at all so I can't help there.
I picked up a universal power trunk release just so I won't have to have my keys in my hand everytime I go to the trunk, plus I have to shut the car off to open the trunk as is. This is the one I'm going to mount:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Power-Trunk-Kit,2424.html
They have a door lock kit too if it'll work for you:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Power-Door-Kit,2423.html

I agree on the lecture apparently there are dozens of $100K+ roll back flatbed tow trucks towing off cars constantly but I never see statistics on it. Every post i have read that asks about installing an alarm has a tow truck statement in it, trust me. I wouldn't bother locking your house because I usually have a battering ram handy and can take out your front door in 5 seconds.....

If you ask about better seatbelts someone will tell you not to bother because you'll wish you were dead if you are in a bad enough accident to need 3pt. seatbelts....I still didn't hear anyone answer if they leave their new BMW, etc. unlocked and windows down when they park at work, home, everywhere they go because what's the point in locking it, they'll just break the window or tow it in 30 seconds and disappear in a 40 foot truck with a car on the back...

Hopefully this info. is helpful,
Jon

I'm not sure on which alarm brands are best but i would look in to one that will disable the starter so they have to tow it to steal it.A alarm will get you a discount on insurance and if you have a garage park it in it.Safer to drive 3 point belts will help a lot so will adding a collapsible steering column to it you have aftermarket or 67/68 should bolt right in.If you want bolt in power locks http://www.autoworksparts.com/power_door_locks.htm and trunk release http://www.autoworksparts.com/power_trunk_release.htm

I always like the Clifford alarms. You can easily get the alarm with locks etc for under $200. Not sure if they have pagers, years ago they had to be added to alarm systems. Clifford had a cool car jack system where you had to type a code within a minute. It would let the thief drive off, but only get a block away before shutting down.

For door locks I just went with simple actuators. They have worked fine for years.
