Default My dad looked at the mustang.

Chances are really good that i am getting this mustang.
It is a 1965 coupe with red interior and primer exterior. No powersteering! I am excited that it doesnt have it. my dad said it was easy to drive. 289 v8

Things I must do:
Flush brake lines
change tranny fluid
clean radiator
fix exhaust intake leak
new intake manifold. (it wasnt the thermostat housing .manifold is CRACKED)
of course granada disc brakes.
new shocks.
and finally paint
not bad for $3000

If it doesn't have much rust to contend with, I would say you got a good deal. Keep us posted with the restoration progress.

You might want to get a magnet, and check the lower front skin on the doors as well. If the back quarter panel has rust, and has been treated with bondo, then most likely those spots are rust encrusted as well.

how much would it cost to replace the quarter panel. I know the panel is like $150 at the most. How much for installation?

You can pretty much double the cost of replacement labor cost for what the parts cost. So, if it is a 150 part, then you are looking at near 500 bux. And, that doesn't include the paint. It is best you do it yourself.

i got my mustang now i must wait to pick it up on sunday. Do you guys think we will be okay driving it back? It is a 100 mile trip and the car has a cracked manifold at the thermostat housing so it leaks coolant. The crack is very small. the engine starts right up and doesnt stall. Tranny gears dont slip.

I was 17 when I bought my first mustang; a 67 coupe! (I finally bought another project car 16 years later!!) I drove it 40 miles from the guy I bought it from. Scariest ride of my life. The car was all over the Long Island expressway. I wouldn't advise taking a 40 year old car on an 100 mile ride. Usually a tow truck will hook it for about $60 and then you'll pay anywehre from $2-$3 a mile. It's costly but if you're unsure of the shape of the car and it's road worthiness I'd pay for a tow.

Good Luck.

Phil
