Default E Fan Shroud Modification

Just got my new e fan and shroud that came with my new aluminum radiator. The mounting gear that they sent would be used to mount the fan directly on to the radator and have it inside the shroud.

I have a feeling (and think I read somewhere) that there should be be a bit of a gap between the shroud/fan and the radiator for better pulling effectiveness. Thoughts? It should be easy to drill a few hole and mount the fan on the outside which may help the fan pull some air from the corners.

Here are the pics of the fan inside and outside the shroud (sticker cover is still on the shroud)

Also should a 140amp alternator be enough for a basic 4 speaker stereo, the e fan, and an aftermarket A/C unit from Old Air?

I don't think you will need to leave a gap on that install unless the shroud (or fan itself) somehow contacts the radiator fins or tubes.

I think e-fans are meant to be up against the radiator, only belt driven fans need the 1" clearance due to engine movement.

Thanks for the advice. It turns out it would not have fit on the outside. Finished product:
