I swapped out the 2 barrel for a 4 barrel with an Edelbrock RPM intake and longtube headers on my 67 convertible and it's faster than it was, but when it gets to a point where I question if I will stay in the car on impact I back off.

Even rebuilt suspensions get a bit unnerving on highway runs.

Back in the day, my 2v auto was slower than an astro van.

At first I was shocked when I read this. Then I realized you were in the wrong section, lol.

My top speed recorded would be 1-2mph.... When I was rolling it off the trailer after buying it.

And sad too. The engine didn't have a lot of miles on it. It was tuned well and had good compression.

I never street raced it again after the mini van incident.

I wont take mine over 90, life's too short and I have a family who needs me. Its really rare if I break 70 these days.

When mine was the stock 6ixer I got to 75 and that was all she wrote. When I was using it for drag racing with the 427 and a lot of nitrous 5.30's in the 1/8th with an average of 132mph, high 8's in the 1/4 average 160mph. Not sure on 0-60 but my 60 foot was normally 1.1-1.3 sec. Now it has a top speed of 0 as it sits in my garage torn apart being brought back to life as a street car.

I can tell you on the the track, mine goes 0-90 in 7.9 seconds. I would guess 0-60 would be about 4.7-5 seconds. My topend is limited by rear gears (3.50). Mine redlines in 4th at about 165mph, and yes I have hit it and it only takes about a mile to get there from a stop.

I would think a 289 which does not have much torque is going to have issues reaching redline in top 1:1 gear unless you have a really low rear gear. Also, unless you have done some serious suspension work, I would not try it.

I agree on that. Unfortunately one of my good friends that was speeding, has made majority of my friends and myself decide that speeding isn't something we should do.
