Default Having an issue with battery not charging

car is a 1965 ford mustang coupe
engine is a custom 302.

the problem we are having is this;
The battery is not holding a charge

what we have done so far is this:
We have checked the battery for it is 1 month old and people at autozone says it's fine.
We have checked the alternator and it is running fine.
We have checked alot of the wiring areas especially from the cables for the battery to the alternator and ground and they are just fine.
We have checked the starter's wiring area and nothing seems to be dead or burnt in that fashion.

we have ran out of ideas what else to check from here.

It could be a short somewhere. Test all the circuits, using a multimeter. My dad's 67 drains fairly quickly. still haven't found the exact problem, but i found which fuse powers it. Test by removing fuses one at a time, when the drain stops, you'll know which fuse it was, and then can trace the problem down

ah, thnx for the fast reply.
even if one of the fuses is draining it wont show it on the fuse? because we checked the fuse box and all the fuses look to be fine.

but that's a great idea we will give it a try though thnx again.

If the Constant Voltage Unit is bad would this cause the battery to drain when the car is turned off not in use?

Also, check the voltage regulator.

Huh, thats a good question, i dont really know if it would or not. On my dads, it's the fuse that powers the clock, lighter, radio memory, etc. SO something something is shorting out there. Like Glen said, check the voltage Reg, something i missed big time.

it was the voltage regulator after all, when we pulled it off it was black on one of the prongs...
smelt it and it smelled just like a burnt electrical wire.

replaced it and now it seems to start up even after 20m. So far we are giving it about 1hour test then tomorrow morning another test.
hopefully

the battery would drain overnite as far as we know. My dad says: it pass the first test it will get another test around 10pm pst, it is 8pm pst if it starts then we will try again in the morning.

If it starts then we know it was the voltage regulator.

I own 3 mustangs as of this week, I have a 1999 v6 35th aniversary, the 65 coupe, and a 67 coupe project.
the 65 has an 5.0 HO built with mild cam, it has a slap stick shifter for the tranny. In a couple of weeks this car goes to the engine shop where a 400hp 351w awaits and this engine and tranny goes into the 67 coupe.

Oh forgot the 65 came with a 289 4spd I will be putting a 4 spd back in. I will post a few pictures later of all 3.

Thnx alot for the help so far we are hoping that was the problem after all.
