Default Shock Tower Brace (Monte Carlo Bar)

Do any of you have this unit from Mustangs Plus:

It is so inexpensive I am wondering if its a good one. I plan on buying the following items soon, so I'm shopping around on Mustangsplus, mustangsunlimited, mustangdepot etc

4.5 Reverse Eye Leaf Springs
Shackles
U-bolts/leaf spring plates
maybe subframe connectors
shock tower brace and or monte carlo bar
front and rear sway bars

do you need a curved brace? unless you have an oval cobra air cleaner you just need a straight one...

Straight one is more structurally sound, only use curved if you absolutely have to. But yeah, I use the straight one from there, affordable and effective. You don't need something expensive.

i have it in chrome. Sucks to put in have to let the car sit in the air for a while for the shock towers to spread then its still a pain to get in. Really didnt notice anything by installing it but im sure it probably didnt hurt its cornering performance. What would you like to know about it?

Does the same one but the straight version get in the way of the distributor? And forgive my naivety but do you have to drill the shock towers to install it? I know it says bolt on but I wasn't sure if drilling was necessary. Does it affect the installation of this export brace:

The straight bar will clear most distributors (including stock). What are you running?

The monte carlo bar will have 4 bolts per side. 2 are existing, and 2 require drilling. Some people only install it with the 2 existing bolts per side.

Also, the bar will be placed in front of the shock towers, so it will not impact an export brace. Have you considered the standard export brace for a fraction of the cost? The Global West is very nice, but very expensive. I'm only mentioning that it might be overkill if the rest of your setup isn't up to the same standard (suspension/steering/tires/etc).

Good luck.

Straight or curved is fine. It actually gives you the option of running an oval air cleaner if you like to change it up a bit. And yes I agree with crunchyskippy, you will be fine with just the basic export brace. Less money just as good.

We put one in what a pain in the rear to install we let our car stay up in the air for days and it never made any difference.I ended up standing on the corner of the brace while my wife pryd it inplace.anyone else have that much trouble.

I first bought one of those crappy curved 25 dollar ones. For the life of me I couldn't get it to fit. The thing felt cheap and nothing worked. Finally just ended up buying a curved scott drake one which was much thicker metal and was actually made correctly. Fit in without needing to jack up the car.

I would just buy the more expensive one tbh those things were cheap i could put all my weight on it and start to bend the ends.
