Smile Pinhole in gas tank

I have a 66 coupe that has a pinhole in the gas tank, maybe a little bigger than a pinhole, but I am trying to find out what the best easiest temporary fix is for this.

Are the tanks welded in or screwed in?

They are bolted in in the trunk, you can probably pick up a new one for about $100 if you shop.

In a pinch a partial bar of soap will stick to the tank and seal the hole... Not an approved fix, but I have seen this used more than once....

(You leave the partial bar over the hole)

I have seen a bar of soap stick (and seal) for YEARS, actually decades.... Not on my cars though...

I have used JB Weld on small leaks and it held up very well, but as stated above a new tank is in order. You can get one for about $80.00 if you shop around.

Wel for a "temporary" fix; go ahead with the JB weld.

For a perminant solution, replace the tank or fill her with 93+ octane and bust out the welder. Either way you won't have to worrie about the pin hole anymore.

wouldnt it be difficult to weld the hole with fuel dripping out...humm I guess it would depend on size of the hole.. it would probably just rust through in some other spot 6 months later.

For a TEMPORARY fix of a pinhole you can use a screw and some two part epoxy. You can get the epoxy at advance or autozone made for gas tank repair. Just break off a small chunk knead it in your hands, put some on the screw and screw it in, then put more over the screw head and surrounding tank. Then get on the internet and find a new tank. The temp fix will work for a while until you can get a new tank.

Good suggestion. Loctite makes a good epoxy for this situation. But replacing the tank is your best bet and it's easy.
