Is the cover still installed? I have always just tapped it out from the back.

thanks guys, whoever replaced it last glued it in like a tool :P took 2 people, a screwdriver, and a mallet to get it out. Now i have 2 different replacements, one has a metal lip or flange around it, the other doesnt. heres a pic i found online, both are identical inside, just one has a "lip"
notice this isnt a ford 289 timing cover, so mine has the indentation to fit the lip.
