Default 69 302 cam cover problem, need advice

Does anyone have an idea why this has happened to my cam cover?, The cam has also shown signs of wear also. this is a 69 302 block, single pump eccentric with dbl roller chain. Any feed back welcome.

I dont see the cam retainer bolts, were they installed? Looks like the cam was able to slide forward and your pump eccentric was rubbing the cover.

Edit: I see the retainer bolts sitting in the eccentric now.

When the gear was installed was it tight against the end of the cam? Is that the stock cam or aftermarket?

The cam is stock and everything was tight, with the thrush plate tight against the block I can't figure out how the cam eccentric can walk forward but it did. I suspect the eccentric is to wide or the cam gear is to wide or the thrust plate, now I need to find specs on thrust plate, gear and eccentric thickness. I have the service manual but nothing as for the actual measurements of parts. Does anyone out there have a thrust plate and Cam gear they could mic for me?

It looks like the thrust plate is all worn out from contact with the cam?..Was it like that before you installed it ?

In 72 ford changed the eccentric and started using shorter pins on the end of the cam. You might be dealing with compatability issues.

But for you to have lobe damage it makes me think the entire cam is moving not just the chain and eccentric. I would do a dry install of the cam, plate, gear and eccentric and measure end play. Something isnt compatable. Take a close look at what the gear is cause from what you have said it is the only aftermarket part installed.

What's the cam thrust?

My guess is "incorrect."
