65 Mustang project Update 9-23-11
I took a little inspiration from GOOD12HAV, and thought I might log some of the progress on my 65 project. I bought the car about two years ago and it looked pretty good from the curb. It was raining and I had my little boy with me so I didn't look at the car as well as I should have. Well, later I figured out the car had been hit in the drivers side door and messed up the A and B piller post, the rocker panel, and hit so hard it wrinkled the dash in the middle.
I don't have many picks of the car before I tore it down so you will have to work with me and I'll try to catch you up to date. I tore the car down and built a body dolly for it and had it blasted and then shot it with some cheap primer to protect it. I started with the front replacing the rad support and the two front aprons. After that I have moved to the drivers rocker and the two posts. The body guy that fixed the car before me was a master of Bondo. Some places were close to a inch thick.
Here is the only pick I have before we tore it down
These are my two helpers
Back from the blaster with the front parts installed
I know this side looks great? The blaster does not take off the Bondo because of heat. There is half a inch of Bondo on the rocker and half to three quarters on the rear panel. Both A and B piller are crunched up bad.
Might be able to see how the rocker is rolled in.
Cut out the old rocker abd B pillar

I welded in the new rocker panel today and added the new/used, A and B posts I took off a doner car. The new "complete rocker" was kinda crummy! It was a inch and a half shorter than the factory piece, so I had to cut the lip that goes to the rear wheel house and I will section a patch later when I fix the inner fender. The rocker was also 5/8" wider than factory. In the photos you can see the A abd B posts dont come across the rocker like they should. I will get some scrap metal and trim them later. I am waiting for my lower cowls to come in and I will start there next. Brent
