Hello to everyone here. My name is Carter and have been lurking around for the last couple of weeks and finally decided to register this morning.

Im not new to the Mustang community as I have owned or still own 4 Mustangs since I was 14. The Infinity I have now is the only nonMustang I have driven in my life.

Anyway after looking at my dad's old '68 coupe for the last 10 years I have decided to get serious about putting it back on the road. In 1978 my dad bought the car and did a complete restoration on the thing. As it was only a 9-10 year old car at the time, it was very solid to begin with. Lucky for me now, he decided back then to have the complete car submerged in chemical stripper to remove everything down to the bare metal. Once out and back home he treated the whole car with anti corrosion products of some sort inside and out.

Fast forward to 1981 and the car was back on the road and as my dad claims ( I remember the car barely as I was only 6 at the time) was in better condition than when it rolled of the assembly line.

Fast forward now another 11 years to 1992. I had been a bad boy and my father had grounded me from driving my '69 vert. As they were leaving me to go out of town I needed transportation so he said I could drive his '68. ( I know the guy was really tough on me huh.) Well unfortunately I introduced his car to concrete culvert head on at about 50 mph ending it's life to that point.

My dad had found a donor car and replaced the front clip from the windshield forward. The local Ford dealer did all the work and actually took a bit of a special interest in it. I have no doubt that the work was done properly.

As I have started to work on the car now I am still impressed with the work my dad had done earlier. As I have been taking all the old paint of the car, removed the vinyl top, taken out all the old interior/carpet I have discovered the whole unibody is in excellent shape. There isn't even a hint of rust anywhere. I will go aghead and replace the floor pan in front of the driver seat to the firewall as when he had restored it earlier he rivited a patch panel there to fix a problem. He didn't weld back then and the fix was performed using flat stock metal but, again the prep work was done right and there is absolutely no rust.

With the insurance money from the wreck dad had bought all new sheet metal for the exterior except for the fenders. (Ford hood, salvage yard fenders and even new door skins because the old ones had enough door dings from my bicycle he thought they needed to just be reskined.

Im looking forward to interacting with you all here in the forums and hopfully you guys can help me along with this project when needed and maybe I can do the same for others. Although this is my first full restoration on a Classic Mustang, I have rebuilt 2 Fox bdy 5.0's and minor work (engine, tranny, interior) on the '69 vert.

Now lets get to it.

My 70 with 15x7s in the front and 15x8s in the rear;



15s are the best size for classics.

Here is a little bit that I am dealing with.




I assume this is the toe panel that needs to be replaced here? Im still a bit confused. It's higher up than the front floor pan that my local Mustang parts house has.


This is the only other trouble spot I see. It's not a rust hole but a triangular tear. I can look later underneath the car to look for additional damage but from what I can tell now its just a tear in the sheet metal. I guess I can hammer it down flat and fix it with a couple spot welds. Anyone else have a better suggestion or idea. Oh yeah the picture is zoomed in so may be hard to tell where the area is. This spot is directly below the driver rear seat next to the quarter panel trim directly below the window crank.
