good deal or priced too high? (72 fastback)
so i found a 1972 fastback and i am not great at figuring out if the 70's are over priced or not. i know it all depends on rust and i am going to take a look this weekend but i wanted to get opinions from you guys first.
so like i said it's a 72 fastback, with a rebuilt 302, mild RV Cam, Edelbrock Intake, Holley 4 V Carburetor, Mallory Ignition, Holley Valve Covers, Rebuilt Factory C4 Automatic.

so he wants $8,800. is that WAY too high? what should i offer?
also i know the 302 in the 72 was really weak, what would you guys recommend throwing in this that will give it more power that is a reasonable price?
thanks so much all!

hows the rust?? its resale red get underneath the car and poke around...also pour water down the cowl.... the 71-73 are actually the best 1st gen mustangs...they ride better are smoother are more aerodynamic etc but they do weigh a little more and are a little larger
Prices are all over the map at these auctions.
Did you see Mecum Indy? They had three 1971s in a row: a Boss 351, a 429 Mach1 and a 351-4v Mach1. The regular 351-4v sold for 47K and the other 2 each sold for 46K, go figure.
Looks like a nice 72, def check for rust and bondo under that paint with a brown magnet sheet. If it's a solid, no rust 302/auto car and runs/looks good 8.8K seems like a very good deal. A 302 can put out pleanty of power if it's setup right.
Looks like a good car with a well built engine. Definitely not an all original car, but a hot cruiser no doubt. I would get it for as cheap as possible (duh) but I wouldn't pay over $10k or $12k at the most. The 71-73s are less valuable than the rest for the first generation, but I'd love to see this thing parked in my garage no doubt.
Check for rust in all the usual spots. If the carpet is loose in the trunk, inspect it super fine. Check under the rockers, in the wheel wells, ect. All the usual spots. If you plan on repainting the car, then I wouldn't pay near as much for it. The paint looks pretty good in the pictures, but that doesn't mean anything. Inspect the body up close in person, the interior looks good, and I'm sure that's a hot little small block.

The one I saw today was at Mecum St. Charles, I watched it on-line.
thanks.
