Default Cost Estimate for Exhaust Repair

I mentioned in an earlier post that the joint connecting the driver external exhaust pipe to the muffler had partially separated, likely due to a poor welding job.

If anyone has had to get a similar repair before or who works as a mechanic, I would definitely appreciate a rough estimate of how much you think it should cost to fix.

The last time I took it in for a pretty simple problem I think I was charged too much so I don’t want to overpay this time.

A pic is attached.

Thanks!

Thats what sucks about living in northern VA. No one knows anything about classic cars and they charge you an arm and a leg for any kind of service. I do as much work on it as I can but I dont know anything about welding.

An exhaust shop could do that in about 10 minutes

go buy yourself a $100 flux wire mig welder from Harbor Freight and pick up a new skill. Its not the best welder, but it will work

Ya, I agree with Iskwezm, this is one of those jobs that you can do yourself, and pick up a new tool for the cost of paying someone else. Just put a floor jack under the muffler to lift it level and take the weight off, and weld in a little at a time. Have fun with it. What's the worst thing that can happen?! new exhaust? new classic?

hoenstly, the cheap $99 mig is good enough for that kind of repair.Who knows, after time you might make a little money doing small repairs for people.

I bought a 175 amp mig from Eastwood and ive made back a 1/4 of what i paid for it and honed my skills
