Future of my Mach 1
Hello all,
I just bought a 71 Mach 1 with the 429SCJ and drag pak. It is in pretty good shape for the $6900 I paid for it. It is currently red and needs repainted. Orignially it was the Grabber Green metallic which I will probably go back to. The body and undercarraige are solid, minurs the drivers door/fender area where previous owner wrinkled it before installing new pins. The second thing would be to reinstall the 4 speed (currently a C6 why I don't know). Interior is pretty good except a couple small tears in front seats and stitching in the headliner. The motor was built up a little. Now I read that there were only 7 made with this color and engine combo. Anyone know for sure? I have the Marti report so the numbers match minus the tranny. Should I restore to original or go another route such as pro touring? According to NADA in current condition where everything works the low retail is over $20,000 when I get the 4 speed back in. I know the market is down but did I get a deal? Sorry this is long and I welcome any feedback. thanks

71 was the last big block mustang and the last drag package car if i remember right something like 1200 or 1500 drag packages was made in 71.Yeah you got a good deal if it was me i would restore it to stock and enjoy it maybe in 5 or 10 years when the market comes back up it will bring some big money.

I'm definitely a fan of keeping it original as possible or restore-able.
Regarding your questions:
Usually the Marti report will list how many cars were made in a specific configuration. The MM authors always quote Marti as the source for all the unique cars they find. I'd look on your report and if it isn't there give the folks at Marti a phone call and inquire (maybe it's included in a better report than the one you have)
