Default HELP!!!

Guys i need help, the other night i was driving around in my 1970 mustang fastback and i parked it in a garage to get some food, but when i came back i found that my engine wouldn't turn over. I checked the battery and it was fine and when i turned the key i could hear a click coming from the starter relay but that was it. Thinking that i fried it i went and bought a new relay and voltage regulator but when tried to start it, none of the interior lights would come on or even a click. So now i think i fried a master fuse or something because its like there is no power at all and i double checked the battery in it and even used a spare that i had just charged. Please help me bring my car back home guys!!!

First thing I would check is to make sure that the battery ground was secure. Check to make sure your battery has a good charge (12-14v) and then follow that charge to the selinoid and the starter. Eventually you'll find a break somewhere.

If your battery was dead then maybe it wasn't getting a charge and that could mean that you have a loose belt and/or your generator (or alternator) is bad as well.

Oh and post a picture....

Did you make sure you put all of the wires back on the + side of the solonoid?..You may have left one off......If that all checks out your original problem did sound like a bad ground or loose connection.Check the ground cable at the engine and then from engine to firewall of the car...Fortunately the starter system is very simple on these cars..With a test light or volt meter check for power at the + side of the solonoid on the inner fender..If you have power there have someone turn the key to crank position and then see if you have power on the opposite side where the cable goes to the starter..If you have power there then check at the starter terminal on the starter itself...I had a starter cable go bad about an inch from the starter once....

I still blame the battery. I bet it makes 12v @ 0.300A no problem but when you demand a load from it say the start motor...not so kick *** anymore voltage probably is sagging to 4v @ high amps.

place a volt meter on the battery and have someone crank the engine see if the volts sag then or swap in a batter from another vehicle or have that battery tested at say your local Oh Really?!?! autopart store.

thanks guys, ill take a look at that when i go to where my car is parked. I was reading some articles and they talked about a wire called a fuse like that goes bad, and when that happens then you get nothing. Does anyone know about this or even where it is???

more info, i had picked up a friend at her house and right as she opened her door, the radios shut off but a few seconds later it would turn on again and it would keep turning on and off, on and off the whole time. The reason why i bring this up is because i had a bad connection to the interior courtesy light on the passenger side. i would have to jiggle it a few times and find a position where the light would have a good connection. Could this have blown this "fuse link" i read about??? and i am confident enough to rule out the problem is not the battery. i have taken the battery out of my car and replaced it with one from my old ranger, still no power or lights and i put a tester on my battery and it read over 12v, so that is not it, thanks anyways

its a jealous bitch. mine does the same thing! It will work fine for a year then I bring a new girl over and she checks out the car and directly it wont start, the floats stick, the alt takes a dump, a water leak starts up and on and on.

Try chasing off that chick wait a day and it should work fine.

P.S I have no idea what fuse they might be referring to I dont think it exists at least not on the earlier models. If you are getting NOTHING and the battery is good you gotta go back over the major lines. the + and - line to the battery and their connectors to start with on both ends

when I was having the exact same problem it turned out to be the connectors to the battery where bad. the battery had good volts but the battery cable wasnt showing the same. the connectors looked good on the outside but the inside where it grips the post had eatin away. When you get that clicking sound from the selenoid its not getting enough juice.

Do what frdnut says, I'll bet you find out that you have bad cables. If so, replace the entire set, including the ground between the engine and the firewall. Try to get the best ones you can, the cheaper ones fail alot, so don't go cheap.

You have a bad ground or bad battery cables connected to the battery.
