Manual steer drag link
Hey
My car used to be power steeting but I got rid of all that and put in a flaming river gear box as well.
The problem is I am still using the PS drag link and a conversion kit that allows the ball stud to stay put with out any of the PS equipment. This conversion kit has a lot of play in it and it is being transferred to the steering wheel it is pissing me off because there is significant slop mostly due to this conversion kit.
I can simply switch to a MS drag link like this one
http://www.laurelmountainmustang.com...nter-drag-link
and that's all I would need right?
The pre installed socket (under the blue cover in the photo) Hooks to the pitman arm right?? Does anyone know if its removable so it can be replaced when it wears out?
Is there a better MS drag link available?
Thanks
-Gun

My recent research on power steering has revealed that in 67, the power steering and manual steering had different center/drag links, idler arms, and pitman arms.
I believe the same is true for the 65-66 years as well. But you should confirm to be certain. Therefore I think you are probably looking at all three pieces to be replaced.
Good luck.
***EDIT***
Upon looking at some of the retailers, it appears there was no difference in 65-66 idler arms and pitman arms when using Power vs. Manual steering. My apologies.

I did exactly what you want to do. I removed the PS center link (along with the pump and hoses) and replaced it with a manual link. I left the PS drivers side tie rod and tie rod end in place and have been running like this for a few years with no problems. Just needed a realignment with the toe measurements after the change.
I plan to take it further now and replace the drivers side tie rods with the proper MS tie rods so it'll look correct.
edit: mines a 66, btw. I left the idler arm in place because I wasn't sure of what type it was.

Hey thanks
gjz apparently there are American made drag links for 100.00 and overseas draglinks for 60.00. Which did you get and is there any play where the pitman arm connects? any play in the steering wheel?
Thanks

Gun, I got the $60 one. No play where the pitman arm connects. Some play in the wheel but not related to this. I don't know how correct they are but it took a fair amount of adjusting to bring the toe specs back to spec. I was thinking it was going to be a 'bolt in' and forget type of job.
