Start with a visual look for anything hanging loose or spraying out of the engine
Next check for gas to the carb by taking your aircleaner off, looking down the carb and moving the throttle open. You should see gas squirting into the barrel. No gas squirting then you have a fuel issue.
Next check for spark to your plugs. If you have a timing light then hook it up and see if the light flashes when you crank the engine. If no timing light then take a plug wire off a plug, stick a #2 phillips screwdriver into it and lay the screwdriver on top of the engine with a 1/4" gap between the metal of the screwdriver and the engine. Crank the engine an see if you have a spark jumping off the screwdriver.
Do these and report back with the results.

To follow up on Rtintwo, for the engine to run you need three things: gas, spark, and air. You are missing one of those three. From the circumstances you described I guess the most likely thing is spark, but it could be gas too. Rtintwo walks you through the steps you should take.
