Tune up ?
Plugs, wires, cap & rotor, oil change and air filter. Maybe timing adjustment?
What plugs are suggested? Gap?
What wires and dizzy parts are people using?
Lastly, what should my timing be set to?
All on a stock 289!
Thx

Autolite 45 Copper Resistor or Motorcraft .035"
BWD Select C154 cap (copper contacts)
BWD Select D198 rotor (copper contact)
BWD Select CH862 plug wire set
Don't forget points and condenser
A101V & G125 - you can guess who makes them and what they're made from...
Timing 6*BTDC, I normally play between 6-10 and see where it starts easiest and runs best, usually find a happy spot in that range but every engines a little different.
I order these through my local O'Reily's they get them in same day or next day depending on what time i call and there is no charge, if i change my mind they send them back in 3 days, no charge. You may be able to rent a timing light from them, never asked. Their rentals are full refund when you return them. Don't forget a feeler gauge to set the points, I *think* the points gap is .017"? You may want to research. A ford shop manual for the '68 is a great investment for <$50 from any mustang supplier for stuff like this, I also keep notes on when tuneups or anything else is done with date, part#, etc.
Using quality parts like Autolite and BWD and you won't have to think about it for 30K mi. for most of the parts (maybe points before then).

I'm running the MSD 6AL box with dizzy. MSD 8.5mm wires. My plugs are NGK, V-Power, they were recommended by some ricer dudes because they have a hotter spark, I guess. I gapped them to .040. I think the wisdom off of this board is that all plugs are about the same and that I could have probably saved some money by buying copper autolites or something.
