Well, it appears to be a combination of both, I put some dry gas in the tank for the existing tank (a little less than 1/2), pulled the distributor cap and checked the dwell, filed the points and reset them, found some moisture on the inside of the cap and adjusted the idle on the edlebrock carb and put new high test gas in the car and it ran a whole lot better. But think I am going to put new points, filing them down is only a quick fix and temporary.

Mositure, ouch. Your on the right track. Maybe time for some "Seafoam" also.
