toploader 4 speed help

Question toploader 4 speed help

i have a toploader 4 speed that was origionally paired with a 302, was wondering if anyone could tell me if it can be used with the 427 FE or if there is anyway to use it with the 427. any and all info would be great as this is my first restomod and i dont know much about transmission nd such.

Not sure but I do have one question. Whats this 427 going in?

its going in a 66 mustang that has rod and customs rack and pinion steering setup.

what about the shock towers?

they get deleted with the rack and pinion allowing for big blocks to be placed under the hood.

I have herd you can use a 302 toploader but the input shaft and i think also the tail shaft needs to be replaced.

Where can i get said parts or should this be done at a shop?

The pilot bearing section of the input shaft is longer on a small block toploader than on a big block one because the big block bell housing is not as deep as the small block one.
The parts are available from many sources, I've found Mark (the owner) at TOPLOADER HEAVEN to be as helpful and reachable as can be. He can sell you a shorter shaft and a CD that shows the step by step process for installing it. If you're in there you might as well rebuild the whole thing as replacing the shaft requires total dis-assembly of the tranny. It may sound difficult but it really isn't.
