Default Steering Problem

My 68 coupe has been giving me steering problems when reaching speeds of 40mph +. The car becomes very difficult to keep straight. It sways back and forth left to right constantly. So I recently replaced the shocks, put new leaf springs in, and a 1 1/8 sway bar. This seemed to help a little but the problem still persisted. I then took the car for an alignment where to my surprise they said the caster and camber were fine. The tow was way out on the right side, which they corrected. The car showed no improvement afterwards.

So im stumped at this point. My car has power steering, so my next guess is the power steering cylinder or steering box? Has anyone had a similar problem or have any suggestions? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You need to check your ball joints, but probably more so the tie rod ends!

had the same issue. It was the power valve. Rebuild kit is about $60.

Thank you very much for the feedback guys. @oxfordbp, i thought ball joints and tie rod ends myself but when i took it for the alignment the mechanic said they were fine.

@monsterbilly, once you replaced the power valve it straightened your ride out? It makes sense to target that area and would be nice if i only had to change the valve as opposed to the cylinder. Was it an easy job to replace it? The spring is here and i want to make sure my stang is ready!
