Default So i just found out...

Ok, so i was planning on putting 14x7 Cragar S/S(or styled steel) rims on my mustang. Unfortunately i am an idiot and forgot i had a 4 bolt pattern on my mustang. It was orginally a I-6 car but was upgraded to the 289 2V. So here is where im stuck. What is involved in upgrading from 4 bolt pattern to 5 bolt pattern? Do i have to change the whole axel? Can i get away with changing the Hubs (note, i have manual drum brakes all the way around) and just changing the studs? I dont want to have a used axel beacuse of safety issues. Another option i looked at today was the "Styled Steel" hubcaps you can buy? They looked ok for the price considering i would probably spend over $2000 just to get the real rims on.
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

To go from 4 lug to 5 lug, you are going to have to upgrade your front. You may as well go ahead and upgrade to disks. For the rear, you will need to change the axle from a 4 bolt to a 5 bolt axle.

Yeah, i've seen those hub caps, personally i wouldn't put them on my car. Right now my 66 has some 65 steel style rims on it. They look Awesome, and i think those hubcaps looked to chinsy. I like the Crager S/S. I have a pair of them, but they wouldn't fit on the mustang.[:@] I think they would fit on my impala though.

But only on the back. Most mustangers only upgrade the front to disks. That takes some work and money, but you don't have to upgrade the rear to disks.

i dont think it's real expensive and hard to change out the rear end. You can go to a junk yard, pick one up, rebuild it, and stick it in.

Yea...only problem with rebuliding a rear end would be that i dont have the knowledge/tools to do it. This means i have to go to an autobody shop and its way more then i want to spend. Thats why i looked at the hubcaps. Damn...Don't know what to do..

Ok, then it is obvious you are a total newbie to resoring vintage musangs, That is OK. We all started from the beginning. Just keep asking questions on here, and do a lot of research on the internet.

ok, now i believe you could do it. Get a book, ask questions on here, etc. Rebuilding a rear end is not that hard. AT least the one i worked on isn't too hard, maybe these are different, but you can do it.
