Default Unisteer R&P binding

Evening,
I just got done installing a new version of the unisteer R&P. I loved everything except the slight bind. I have shimed, trimed and still cant seem to get it to go lock to lock smoothly. I have phased, misphased and tried every other placement of the u-joints, but i cant seem to get it. Any advice for the unisteer users would be great.
Thanks a million
Mike

If that joint on the rack is sitting down on the splined shaft it will thump, i find those pivots can crash when the corners hot, i ground the corners off of mine.
Leave the colum loose under the dash and pull it up to give you room to pull the inner shaft up while the pivots are loose, then you may get some clearence.

Also, my rack took a few hundred miles to break in.

Thanks again coupe for the information. I've ground down the corners on all four of the U-joints, but it still hasn't helped. It still seems to get tight and then loose, did yours do this as it was breaking in. The guys at unisteer said to give it 500 miles, but it just seemed wrong. Did yours have a tight spot? mine seems to have 4 of them from lock to lock. In the back of my mind it still seems like its the u-joint, but i cant find any places that its binding. Thanks a million again...
And by the way your write up on your install was very helpful.

Here is another pic since the camera angle on the first already made it look like it was touching.

You look clear on those u joints, it's gotta be the rack just being new, it took mine a while because highway miles don't break it in like around town will.

But, yes I did have a few spots that made me check my u joints several times going wtf?

I'm definately not an expert, but that sure looks like allot of angle on that U-joint, so how can it pivot smoothly? That U-joint must be like K-Y at all four points.

To me that u-joint looks bent too sharp. Mine are bent significantly less and they are right on the edge of binding.

I had a very narrow path to work with, I had to really work to get the bends out, by using three joints and a carrier bearing.

IMO, the second joint in the picture is about the most you can ask of a u-joint.
