Not starting without help
Okay, installed new intake and edelbrock 1405. Fixed my fuel sending unit leak. Had to put some fuel in the carb to get it started, to get the gas in the lines faster.
She starts up, idles great, revs great. I let her run for a warm up cycle no problems.
after she cools down, she wont start up! I have to do the whole process over again to get it started again. WTF?
Its like the gas in the carb bowls evaporates and has to fill up again? I dont want to burn up my starter so I only tried cranking for a minute or so with no luck.
All this with the choke open.

Okay
you should be starting it with choke at about 50%
You should press the gas pedal to the floor twice to engage accelerator pump and prime the carb with fuel.
If you are doing this then:
After it cools off from normal operating temp to room temp take the air cleaner off and with engine off look down the carb and pull full throttle by hand you should see two jets of fuel squirt into the carb as you reach full throttle (assuming edelbrock type carb 4bbl).
If you dont see the fuel squirt in then it could be a worn accelerator pump piston or a dry bowl. To check which shut down the engine after running and do above test...do you see the fuel squirt in now?

No choke cable but will install today.

Yes I do pump a few times before starting.

Okay right after shutting down the engine can you see fuel squirt in from the accelerator pump when you use your hand to move the throttle to the wide open position?????

P.s are you just saying that or are your sure....did you really look???

I think its my fuel pump. I just went out and started it. If I put a little fuel into the primaries, it fires up no problem, and stays running. I can rev it up as much as I want no problem. I have a plastic see through inline fuel filter before my fuel pump, it is pretty much empty while running, but as soon as I shut it down it is full Maybe not enough fuel pressure to keep the carb full, but enough to keep it running when started??
Okay
So I read that as "YES I verified that the accelerator pump works because right after shut down i do indeed see fuel squirt from the accelerator jets into the carb barrels"
If thats indeed the case then a bad fuel pump maybe the cause as you suspect.
To test that remove the fuel line from the carb and place it in a large glass jar.
Its best to have a helper but not mandatory.
Crank the engine over for about 5 seconds...is there more than a cup a fuel in the jar and even though you used a big jar some of it still managed to splash out??
if there is only an oz or two then I suspect pump as well. or line blockage.

Ps the engine may start even with the fuel line off if it starts during the test then simply let it run for the remainder of the 5 seconds then shut it down....try to avoid starting the engine by not priming the carb first via the accelerator pump

Incorrect. Yes I verified that the accelerator pump may indeed be BAD due to NO fuel squirting after shutdown.
Sorry for the confusion there.
I will try the fuel pump test Now.
