Default To much engine for tranny???

Hey guys I just got a 347 stroker installed on my 67 mustang it has the 3 speed auto tranny I drove it around the first day and was told to watch the RPM especially on the highway I was able to go 80 on the freeway at about 4700RPM no prob. Today the car just reved in drive I turned the car off then back on and it worked fine got me home when I got off the freeway it did the same thing when I parked the car and turned it off it made a clunk clunk noise when I turned the key to shut it off Is this due to the tranny not being able to handle the engine?

sounds like you might be a little low on transmission fluid...when its low sometimes it will feel like its in neutral till it build up pressure...

with that said i went thru 3 c4 transmissions all used but in good shape behind a 357C(30 over) engine i built....i could hear the transmission explode internally...i finally built one myself and stopped going thru them :P

the C4 is a great tansmission, it should be able to handle the 347 just fine. low tranny fluid sounds like the issue as rmodel said

If its the stock trans with some miles on it might be just its time to go.But being a c4 you can have it rebuild with upgrades pretty easy,If you can take it out and put it back yourself that will save you a lot of money.

So I read online that it could be the vacuum cable from the transmission modulator to the carb so i checked it and it works just fine i noticed today after driving it around it revs high right before it shifts into gear before it shift it drives great. any other ideas it could be?

its flaring up in between shifts...probably wont live too much longer...you could try and adjust the band but it will be a band aid...

How To Adjust Bands
Intermediate Band Adjustment: Left side of case, tighten to 10 ft. lbs., then back out 1½ turns counterclockwise. The 10 ft. lbs. snugs the band around the drum before backing out 1½ turns. Tighten locknut.

Low-Reverse Band Adjustment: Right side of case, tighten to 10 ft. lbs., then back off three turns counterclockwise.
