Default New engine installed...

Bought a short block from TRE performance...took 2 full days to get motor into the 65. Started it up and oil is pouring out the rear dripping down the beel housing...did these bastards not install a galley plug or maybe even the rear main seal? Now I have to spend a full day pulling it out, and then another putting it back in again. What else could have been forgotten? I am beyond pissed. Everytime I rely on someone elses work I get ****ed.

Is it possible that you got a rear intake manifold oil leak?
I've replaced several intakes in the past doing 4V upgrades and I've also taken a couple back off because a oil leak you mentioned.

That was when I got smart and started studding my 4 corners of the manifold so that I knew 100% it dropped straight down and never shifted and moving gaskets while placing it on.

I'd look into that before taking the whole motor out.

yes, sounds like you got a bad rear main seal probably.. a galley plug left out would leak a ton of oil.

good, idea with the intake studs. I like to put a stud in the center of each head, then pull them out once you got the rest of the bolts in.

He mentions it dripping down the bell housing, so I was more inclined to the intake manifold.

Depending on how long the short block sat before it was sold, the rear seal could possibly have dry rotted a bit causing the leak.

There is a large press in plug in the lifter valley near the rear intake valley seal. Heresay only, but I recall reading chevy guys forget that one from time to time.

BTW, All other galley plugs should have been tapped and plugged instead of using a press in plug.

I don't recall, what happened to the last motor?

One other thing, if it is the rear main, make sure there are no nicks on the crank use a viton seal (asssuming 1 piece here).

hahah, ya the chevy guys love to forget that big one under the intake! With that out though, you will have zero oil pressure

I inspected the galley plugs before install. Weird that the fronts were screw in type and rears were press in. or vise versa. I highley boubt the intake would leak as bad as the oil was. And visually I would have been able to see the intake leaking. Im going to pull the motor today and prime the heck out of it to see if I can locate the problem if it is not obvious. Hoping its a gally plug but i bet its the rear main. Which is gonna suck because everything will have to come apart.
