Shorty headers for the 302?

Default Shorty headers for the 302?

Have got to put exhaust on this new v8 motor. Someone said I should get some shorty headers off E'bay for like 80 bucks.

Will they actually give me more horsepower?

I don't really want it to be loud, just want it to sound like it now has a v8.

Full length (long tubes) will give you a better increase in hp but only you can decide if it would be worth the cost. The shorties will sound good with some good mufflers. I personally don't think you can lose out either way unless your motor has been really modified then definitely go with full length headers.

I'm not sure about $80. You usually get what you pay for. But as far as the choice between shorties and long tube, you may find this info. interesting http://www.sandersonheaders.com/Lets-Get-Technical.html

I found this because I happened to get Sanderson. But I'm sure it applies to who ever you decide to go with.

i have headers on my 65...but i think im gonna pull them off and install "K" code manifolds...the mufflers are whats holding your sound back more than anything...

what kind of mufflers are you running right now?

Did you actually notice any power gain with the Sandersons over a stock manifold?

As for $80 headers, I have also read very repeatedy: you don't want the cheep ones!!

The Sandersons were part of a total re-build. Motor is WAY different than before. On a stock engine I'm not sure how much gain you would get, but on a modified motor I'm pretty sure stock manifolds would hold you back.

I put a set of Hedman shorty's on my '65. Could not ask for a better fit and with the Flowmaster 40's, awesome sound. If I remember right, I found those at Summit Racing. Heed the advice above, don't cheap out on the headers.

And it also depends on your motors compression how it will sound depending how high if the ground your car is will determine weather you want long tube or Shorty headers with long tube your going to need to get o2 sensor write extenders shorts you can just connect and go, unless you have bypassed your o2 them you have no worries
