new R code 428scj wont turn over
Hi from Dan, I have a new rebuilt R code 428scj in my 1969 mach 1. 4 speed, total restoratrion, every part, nut and bolt new, all correct, After everything was put in, I was going to do an oil prime first before the start up, but the engine will not turn. it went about 5-10 degrees then stops, then you can turn it back and it stops, I tried turning the engine by hand and is hard, very hard. the spark plugs are out. Anyone have the slightest idea what is going on here?. the starter is not rubbing, the flywheel is not rubbing, fuel pump is in right, car is in nutrol and rolls, I'm out of options. any Help!!!

Hi from Dan, a engine shop, it did turn over in shop to adjust the valves, then I installed the flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, toploader, 4 speed parts, etc, in car, we were ready to do the fireup, it turns about 5 degrees, stops, then you can turn it back and it stops, ??, checked starter, fuel pump, flywheel, nothing is rubbing, used all correct bolts, what if the flywheel bolts were to tight ??

Is it possible someone installed the clutch plate backwards? It's hard to do, but not impossible. That would cause some interference with the flywheel bolts.
Also possible that the valves were adjusted incorrectly. Obviously you need to figure out what's preventing the motor from turning before you can start it. Does the car roll? If so, you can factor out anything aft of the transmission.

Hi from Dan, engine turns about 5 degrees, stops, then you can turn it back, stops, thats it, starter is out, valves are all looseend off, pullies loosened, distributor out, car rolls in nutrol, so we tried to roll the car in gear with the clutch in, it wont roll, so I am going to back off the tranny, I put in clutch as before many times, but you never know ??

I'd disconect all the transmission/clutch/flywheel off the back, and I'd pull all the accessories off the front and try to turn it over. If it does, then you know it's someting you bolted on later. If not then I'd pull the distributir, then the waterpump and try again. If still can't turn then pull the valve covers and release all the pressure off the rockers so all the valves are closed and try again. If still doesn't turn then you'll have to tear it down. But by doing it in stages you should be able to figure it out.
