Default '67 overheating at idle

The temperature gauge on my '67 coupe with inline 6 goes from center to almost hot when a idle for more than 5 or 7 minutes. After I get goin' it seems to return to normal...No a/c hooked up on this car and purely stock manual 3-speed. Wondering if y'all had any ideas about whats goin' on with the temp and if a radiator shroud is available for this 200ci engine?

Yeah, my 289 does the same thing. Are you getting steam coming out of the radiator cap? How many rows do you have in your radiator?

Summit Racing makes a universal shroud, you might want to check it out.

Well classic mustangs do tend to overheat more when at idle because there is very little air flow.

No steam or obvious signs of leaks from the radiator. Don't know the number of rows...how do I find that out? Might try the univeral shroud to see if it helps...thanx

When everything is cold, open up the radiator cap and feel inside the top of the radiator, you should be able to feel rows of fins going from one side of the radiator to the other.

Cool...just checked it out...3 row radiator..thanx for the info. Checked Summit Racing with the universal fan shroud by Mr. Gasket. It looks like only 1/2 of a shroud in the pic. Is that correct or is the picture misleading?

I bought mine last summer and installed it on my 4 row on Old Yeller, and here is what it looks like installed. But, it does have a bottom thin area not pictured. This the cheap one for about 25 bux. For about a hundred bux you can get a full version.

Danny, I get most of my parts from Texas Mustang out of Waco because they are the closest to me. I am sure you could get this same shroud from just about any vendor. But , if you are in Texas, here is their Url. It comes with the mounting brackets. http://www.texasmustang.com/
