Default 351 engine probblem HELP!!

Ok did a rebuild on a 1969 mock 1 mustang 351w motor. Board 30 over, new pistons cam timing chain. Having a problem, first once we put it in the car and tried to turn it over it had no compression, found out we needed smaller push rods. After that we got compression. But it only runs at 20 degrees, Ive set it at 6 it runs but needs the idle increased as soon as I increase it the engine dies, even tired pushing the throttle and again it just dies. Car drives at 20 degrees but over heats after a little while. Checked the cam timing and its correct. Kinda lost any help will be great-full

did you assemble the motor? the over heating might be a backwards headgasket...also could be from the timing being off...sure you have the right balancer/timing pointer combo?

original timing pointer and balancer, I think the over heating is due to the timing.

Does that mean it's a fake Mach1?

sounds like you are running manifold vacuum. Make sure
you are running ported.

Original balancer? I'd check it. As they dry out the outer steel ring will shift around the rubber isolator band and cause the timing mark to not be where it should in relation to the keyway. Essentially moving your timing mark 10, 20, 30 degrees. Compre it to a known good balancer to see if the marks line up.

Cool 351 Issue

Please ensure that you have your ignition wires at the distributor cap installed for a 351 firing order and not the 289 / 302 order. Yes a 351 will start, run with a very retarded timing and want to die off idle.
