Default Rusted Chassis

I'm currently in the market for a classic '67 mustang. The guy who is selling it is saying everything works and body looks okay but the chassis is rusted out and not drivable..Is this even worth taking on? I havent seen it personally but the car looks great..This will be my first project car but wondering if the chassis is even worth pursuing.

Only if you have the time, money and abilities it will take to dismantle and totally rebuild it. All the parts are available to purchase from vendors.

It may not be worth the investment unless it's a special car like a k code or a fastback.

Do you wrench? Do you weld? Do you have basic tools? No to any of those questions, save your money. A body shop or mechanic will take you to the cleaners if you pay someone them to do the work.

Unless you can weld good and can do it at home pass on it.

You say the body looks OK but the chassis is rusted out? Chances are there is a lot of badness hiding under that OK looking body and needs to be replaced. As mentioned, if you can't do most of the work yourself, or have deep pockets, move on...

I looked at a '65 that "looked OK" yet when I tapped on the rear frame, my finger went right through the rust! That car hardly even had anything to weld the patch panels to! If the seller says it is so rusted out it isn't drivable, your time and money are probably better spent elsewhere.

I seriously doubt that a car with a crusty frame that is unsafe to drive has an ok body.

Pick up your tool box and run.

OK body,.....meaning that the rust has been covered with Bondo and painted

If you are still tempted, take it to an expert body restoration shop and get a firm estimate. You may be turned off because of the expense but if you do the work yourself,it will take even longer.
