First Gen Questions
Looking for a first gen stang..first, did they make v6s back then? Since I'm seeing ads saying v6 should I be alittle weary here..Also, what type of rear ends were standard back then..are they easily upgradable like newer stangs.?
Thanks - Dan

The v6 was produced during the late 70's as a quick inexpensive alternative to the v8. They simply cut off the last two cylinders of the v8 in the machining. The technology has improved dramatically since then. The original 6's are in line vs V shape, which created more torque power. Better motor, imo. Simply, 76-78 mustangs used v6 and anything earlier used straight 6.
straight 6's got the 7.5? (it was like the GM 10 bolt no pumpkin.)
standard lopo V-8's got the 8 inch
Hipo V-8's got the 9 inch
8 and nine inch rears are easily upgraded. v-8's are easy to upgrade, 6's not so much...
Some people are car stupid i have seen adds say its a inline v6 before lol.Just over look them not knowing there is a difference.Honestly with the car market right now you can get a v8 car cheap and the early inline 6s are money pits to make power out of vs a 302.
I agree. I had a 6 first and now have a 289. I'll never go back to a 6. The car never ran that well and had no power. Too many negatives to be worth the fact that you spent a little less money.
I've had a couple of I6 Mustangs and without fail every one of them ran like a sewing machine. Some of them took quite a bit of coon-tuning to get them there but they were as reliable as an anvil.
Hell, I even had one of them that got almost 30mpg like clockwork. None got lower than 20mpg.
