Default Upper A Arm Shims

I want to shim out the front end of my upper A arms to draw the wheel rear ward about an inch. After the shelby drop and new suspension the wheels rub the valance at full tilt either way. So what can I use? I though about getting some large strong washers and cutting a slot or finding some earlier alignment shims. Any suggestions?

Its been a while since Ive been on, bought a house and got a different job, and then the rules changed that I couldnt have the same name and password, so I just had to change it.. I hope everyone is doing well.

Here is the old thread from the issue.

You probably already know this-the washers are going to adjust the camber and caster. You choice of washers sounds good to me- obviously the real shims are most preferred. Alignment shops usually have a s-load of these shims lying around, try dropping by one if you haven't. As far as your dilemma, a washer/shim on the rear stud should rotate the top of the wheel forward. from there you may be able to pull the bottom of the tire rearward with the strut rod.

Side note, body shims and alignment shim are similar looking. Alignment shims are longer by a good 1/4-3/8 in, to make them easier to grab. Suggest once you have your stack of shims for each bolt set, pull them out and wire them together into a single stack using safety wire. That little length of wire does wonders to save your fingers and keeps you from having to dig for dropped shims. It'll make it much easier to pull them out and put them in. Back to your 1" move...You're talking probably three or four 1/8 shims to start, to get the caster you're looking for. Harbor Freight now sells complete pkgs of body shims if you can tolerate the short lenghth, I think they're less the $15.

Thanks guys, I will look in to the harbor freight shims, or whatever I can find to get the job done.

I'm assuming you mean 3 or 4 shims per bolt?
I took ours out and never notated on what came out of each arm because I was replacing everything.

I got the shims soaking in Evapo Rust now before I go put them in.
