Default trumpet tips

i am replacing the dual exhaust on my 66 mustang gt and was wondering, how far do the trumpet tips stick out from the rear valance? i know people have mentioned that if they arent out far enough there will be black residue on the valance. thanks.

They clear the valance opening a few inches. See if this pic helps.

That's the way they look best, but is not original. Find an add for an original GT and you will see they stuck out quite a bit further from the factory.

If memory serves, they stuck out 2-3 inches, but I can't find anything detailed to reference that.

I don't hink so Scott. If you can produce a factory original pic, then do it. All the ones I have seen in person protruded out about 2 inches from the valance.

You're probably right Glen. It could have been just the angle the picture is from. I saw it on an add that was for sale on ebay a while ago. If it comes around again, and I think of it, I'll try to snag the shot. I've got to think that is in the restoration handbook. Anybody pick one of those up?

I do think it looks much better Kept short like you are suggesting. So even if by some slight chance it's not correct, it looks better then what I saw anyway.
