Front end creaking and cracking
When I bought my car it didn't make too many noises...some creaks and a few cracks, typical stuff. Last week I had the stock fender braces removed and an export bar installed.. Now the noises are super loud and very annoying.. Any tips..??
Now see what you've done!
Gone and stiffened up the chassis, so now that poor old suspension has to do all the work. Gee can't a worn out old spring perch and upper control arm get a break around here!
That is most likely where the noise is coming from. Usually by the time you hear the squeaking it is too late, but you might try lubing the upper control arms while working them up and down.
You've got lots of choices of what to do. The cheapest would be to cut off the exhaust pipes right behind the bell housing. But that's not too practical. And in most states wearing hearing protection while driving is not legal.
This would be a good time to start looking at different suspension components. If you want to keep the stock look to your suspension and get better performance at the same time, Maier Racing has a nice upper control arm, and Cobra Automotive makes a really nice brass bushing spring perch, like the original '65 had (only better). A good Moog lower control arm to match this setup would be a great compliment. Stick to Moog replacement bushings, or a hard rubber bushing for the stock strut rods, but not polyurethane.
If you go any higher tech, then I'd look at a complete Global West system, to include the strut rods.
Nice to know your new brace is doing what it is supposed to do though!
