Default Help with distributer!

Okay when i took my distributer out this rod came with it. The rod is pointed at one end and flat at the other. Every time we try to put the distributer in it just falls out. What am i doing wrong. The rod was stuck down there but i use a magnetic drill tip to get it out. Thanks for your help!

That's your oil pump drive shaft. You'll need that to be installed and properly seated in the oil pump or your engine will last about 2 minutes when you start it up.

It's been a long time since I've been in one of these motors, but some shafts have a small flat retainer that helps hold it centered in the bore. Also, you can try covering the end of the rod w/ grease and see if it will hold the rod centered long enough for the dist. to slip on to it.

This can be a little frustrating, but stick with it. It is extremely important.

Good luck.

Jim.

Well, That Rod is the rod that turns the oil pump. Maybe you can put a little pertermtex on it to hold it. It shouldn't hurt anything.

Yep.

If it doesn't, your engine will receive no oil.

After you finish whatever project you are working on, watch the oil pressure guage carefully when you start it to make certain that you have pressure.

If not, shut it down immediately and find the problem.

Good Luck.

Then the light should come on, if it works properly. That must suck, not having guages.
