Default Shifter loose

Hows it going everybody? New to the Forum.....
Recently engaged and the fiance's father is giving me his 1968 Ford Mustang convertible as a wedding gift. It is in great shape, he's owned the car since 1970 and has taken great care of it. It has the original 289 with 236,000 miles on it. Its an automatic with no rust. That being said it is in need of some TLC. The interior needs to be replaced (easy fix looks like im ordering most of it from CJ pony) A question that I have (I have many but starting small until I start digging deeper into it) for the brilliant minds of this mustang haven would be about my trans shifter. It slides through gears like it should but sometimes it slips into neutral or into second. Is there something under the car i could tighten or something under the shift panel.

Thanks guys

Buddy

ps Ill get some pics up, im pulling it out of the garage tomorrow and into the shop to take a look at the old undercarriage. Future mods include new convertible top, new carpet and seats (while maintaining the classic look) new wheel and tire combo, and possibly a/c because looks like the next duty station is Texas....

I'll bet your shifter bushings are shot to begin with.

The bushings get worn out and the shifter wobbles around and feels like a wet noodle handshake, which sucks.

CJ or any other parts vendor will have the replacement bushings. Easy peasy.
