Question fastback vent paint

Were the wire mesh backgrounds of the side vents in the upper rear quarter panels of the "66 Mustang fastback painted black or left as bare metal? If painted, was it flat, or semi gloss?

Was any part of the chrome surrounding that mesh painted?

My mesh was unpainted (Except for overspray), so I just soaked em in in thinner and made sure they were clean. Painting the black portion on the cast bits with chrome edges was a treat tho.

There is no paint on the chrome surrounds on my car. How in the world did you paint it? did you use a flat black?

When the vent is totally apart you have 5 (I think) individual cast pieces that have a chrome edge but the portion that the air flows through is black, the inner square tube basically. I'm going from memory but it was just last year when I restored mine.

So you are saying the metal mesh portion was painted black. Good to know. The paint is totally gone one mine. Was any portion of the chromed plastic inserts painted black or were they 100% chrome?

No, I did not say that at all?

The mesh is silver, unpainted as far as I could tell. The cast pot metal parts have black runners with chrome surround beading that I had to mask off. Did you take it all the way apart? Look at the backside of the vent mesh and you will see its original finish.

Pic from today.
