Default 351c to 4.6 motor swap

Hello, I am a new member and I hate to suggest this as my first post, but I am considering removing my blown 351c and installing a 97 4.6 out of a lincoln. motor, tranny, computer and all.
My first question, other than how many people think Im an idiot, is Will the motor mounts work in the 71?if the 4.6 will not bolt up, will a 302 bolt up to the original mounts?

thanks.

the motor mounts wont work and neither with the trans bolt pattern...a 302 will bolt up to the factory 351c mounts and the factory transmission...

The 4.6 will fit into the 71 engine bay without any shock tower mods, but you will need custom motor and transmission mounts. Someone out there may have them already.

NO you don't need to change the shock towers for a 302.

Are you sure a 4.6L fits in a 71 without cutting the shock towers???
Mustang Monthly had a fitment article a few years ago and said about the 4.6 mod motor: "if it has shock towers, it's going to need cutting". (Not that MM is always right about everything).

About 2 months ago modified mustangs and fords did an article about putting a coyote in old fords. The 71-73 mustang was designed for the 427 cammer, so a coyote fits. It was the only Ford muscle that could clear a coyote without tower mods. If the coyote fits, so should a 4.6.

thanks for all the help. SOOO my easiest path would be a fox body 302 and tranny right? a both the frame mounts for the motor and tranny mounts should not require any alterations, correct?
