Hey guys its been a while but the car is coming out of storage now that its warm again. Looking at some new projects and thinking about an AOD swap again. I saw this video and I didnt get what was going on at 2:19:

Do you need to do this with an AOD to hold/shift manually through the gears?

Couldn't you just shift 1-2-D (which would be 3 and then it would shift to 4)?

Is there a special mod needed to keep AODs in gear longer?

you have to shift from 1 to drive then back to first to hold 2nd iirc its the way the valve body operates...

Is that a mod to the valve body? Why wouldnt that drop it down to 1? My C4 I can just shift 1-2-D.

The reason I am asking is if I do get an AOD being able to do manual shift is a nice feature when on the backroads.
