I mostly get the nods and the thumbs up when I am driving the '72 coupe around. It needs somework, but it looks pretty good for a 33 year old car. I have a list to get done this winter, so hopefully when I get all that done it will get a little more love on the street.

I get it from people of all walks of life. All seem to have a meaningful story involving a mustang. It's neat to hear. About the only time it wasn't entertaining was when I had someone argue to me that the wheels on my car (17 x 7' Boyd Coddington Smoothie's) WERE the factory wheels and that he didn't care for them. I simply told him that was the great thing about building a classic Mustang was that you could build it however you liked and politely walked away. Still kinda funny though.

Over the years that I have owned Old Yeller and the 03 Mach, I constantly get a thumbs up as I pass or am being passed by another Mustang. Sometimes they even blow their horns, or come over to the gas pump to ask me about my cars. Heck, I have even had folks that weren't even driving a Mustang to blow their horn or wave at me on the freeway or come over to the gas pump and tell me about the Mustang they used to have. Do you guys get that too?
Yep, I do get a lot of that too. I usually get it in town or at the gas station.

I have one particular incident that you may find funny though. Have you ever been in town in traffic and have someone in a car or truck pulls up and wants to race? While that in itself is expected driving while driving a classic Mustang, it's hard not to laugh sometimes whenever someone driving a 18yo car using about a quart of oil to the mile and missing pretty badly, is rusted badly, & has collision damage (you know the pic I'm trying to make here) all of a sudden thinks they have a ride that’s going to beat you in a race.

While I never make fun of someone’s ride, you have to know your limitations. Well after one such incident with a ricer loaded with 4 teenagers where they wanted to race from light to light, and I obliged them, they kept wanting to race at each light. Well I got bored and really left them! I pulled in to a gas station and they pulled in a bit later when they seen me there. They were putting gas in their car when one of the guys came over & was really curious and he was telling me how much he liked my car. His buddies told him to get back there (the driver was pissed cause I made him look bad). He said in a minute. The driver said F*** you and took off! Well, I felt bad for the kid so I gave him a ride home. I had the pleasure of dusting off the same ricer again! The kid was so impressed he said he was going to get a Mustang. As it turns out, I did see him later in the summer at a local cruise-in. Guess what he was driving? He found himself a 73 Mach and bought it! He is working on getting it restored but thanked me for getting him interested!

I think people have an affinity for the classics, both you and the car Soaring....

Sorry man, I just couldn't resist. [sm=joke.gif]
Yep, the old man on the block. But, I am retiring.....and can say I have lived almost 62 years (October 27) on this earth. You younguns can't guarantee you will live that long. AND still be able to drive a hot rod Mustang.

I have had my 65 since i was 14 .... bought it off of my uncle who spent 12 years resoring the driveline & interior. The body was left to me. once i got it painted, all the Chevy pukes at school would talk chit, but i knew who had what ... damn dime a dozen chevy's.

Unfortunately, I got the most attention from the Dublin, CA Poilce Dept, actually had to park the car & get a new one so they would forget about me for a while, They would stop me for the dumbest stuff, but i always got a ticket for something. Tinted rear window with only 1 side mirror, noise pollution, Ect. First time i broke into the 3 digit bracket was in that car. She hasnt seen the street in about 5 years .. FINALLY got the motor back into it & hope to fire it up tonite or tomarrow.

My favorite reaction is from kids..."nice mustang, mister"...how many other 40-year-old cars can be identified by 11-year-olds as you drive by?
