Default Looking into a '66

Hey guys, new to the forum. I was recommended by a friend to check this out.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1966 mustang 289 for right around 7000. The odometer reads just under 69,000 and with a 3 spots of rust on the back drivers side, other than that the paint is great. The radiator was recently been replaced as well as the carb, a 4 way holley. The interior is also pretty pristine condition. It seems like a great deal for the price but I'm really looking for people's advice or experiences. What are the usual things to check for in this kind of car?

Coupe: Sounds like too much money.

Convertible: Sounds reasonable.

Fastback: Buy it.

The fifth digit in the VIN tells you what kind of 289 you have, ie, 'C' (lower hp) or 'A' (225 hp). This also affects values somewhat. I realize you said it has a 4bl Holley on it, but if nothing else is altered, and it's a 'c' code, then you have slightly lower compression ratio.

Pics here would help.

Make sure you inspect the underside of the car, look at the frame rails, pans, etc. for rust. That can go a long way in determining the value of a car. It's fairly easy to cover up the body with bondo and paint to make it look "nice".
