Question 289 Engine?

so I am looking at buying a 289 engine and trans out of a 1966 Mercury for my 1965 Mustang. I am assuming these will fit my mustang just fine? thoughts??

The engine shouldn't be a problem with the right motor mounts but the transmission might be depending on the shifter set up in the Mercury. If it is an automatic, the shift lever on the transmission points up for the Mustang floor shifter. If the Mercury has a column shifter, the transmission shift lever will probably point down. I've heard you have to take out the transmission apart to flip the lever.

Hi thanks for the reply. I figured the engine would be o.k. if I got some mustang engine mounts. The engine/trans will need to be rebuilt so I guess it won't matter then if I have to flip the lever. Very interesting information, thanks again for sharing!
