New Problem
OK! My GF's brother and I took on the task of rebuilding my Autolite 2100 over the Christmas week. We changed plugs, wires and the oil while we were at it. After finding the plastic choke lever that we broke we got the carb on the car and she is up and running. She starts right up like she did before but now she has a pretty rough idle and I have noticed a huge loss in power. The reason for the carb rebuild was a real bad hesitation/stall on initial throttle. The hesitation is still there but she is far less likely to completely stall. We also noticed that she was backfiring when letting off the throttle. Any ideas what could be going on and any fixes? I plan on taking her to the carb rebuild shop later this week to get the carb tuned.
If you are going to keep this car you may as well buy a timing light and a vac gauge. You can tune the carb yourself. Get her running at idle and warm and then tune the mix screws for highest vac at a set idle (750-800 rpm) reset the idle and then reset your timing. Do it a couple of times. Then look at your accelerator pump. The pump should be adjusted so that it squirts just as you start to press the accelerator. That way there is fuel introduced between idle and your main circuit and it doesn't bog. Once you see how the carb is running and the pump shot works you can take it around the block. You may need to adjust your timing again if it is pinging ( sounds like marbles in a can at light load... ) try going up a hill and get on it a little to check..
