Any Hood Clearance Issues with Air Gap Manifold?
Have pretty much decided on a Ford Racing 302 crate engine (not the Boss) for my 1968 fastback project. Would like to use the Edelbrock Air Gap manifold since it appears to offer the best performance but am concerned about the increased height. Anyone have any experience with this manifold? I want to be able to use the stock hood that came with the car.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I think you should be ok. I have a Weiand Stealth and a 1/2" spacer on the 331 in my 67fb with a 2-3/4" tall filter. Worst case, you may have to use a drop-base filter housing and swap the spacer for a thick gasket.
Just fyi, you can get way more power for your money if you go with something from fordstrokers.com or find a shop that knows what they're doing. The Ford Racing crate 302's have been tested by various people and found they often produce anywhere from 30-40 less hp than advertised (prolly a result of testing methods on Ford's part to produce favorable numbers).
Thanks to everyone for their information/feedback.
I did email Fordstrokers for some additional information on their 347 longblock about a week ago but haven't heard back from them.
It's the age old situation of horsepower versus dollars.
After adding intake, carb, distributor and other required parts to the Ford Racing crate engine, will have about 320 hp for approximately $5,000.
To get the horsepower up to around 400, the dollars goes to between $7,000 and $8,000.
Trying to stay at 400 hp or below so I can use the T5 trans instead of the TKO.
Thanks!

Fastback,i am running a blueprint 347 I got from Jegs it dyno at 422hp at flywheel, that was with a 650cfm,long tube headers, med. I can also help you out with parts as I have them for sell along with a 302 that came out of my 88 gt that's what the 347 went in. The 347 was 3600 good bang for buck I will post video so you can hear it
Thanks again for all of the information (and video).
Got a lead on a couple of engine shops in the Charlotte area so will be visiting them in the next week or so.
I'm sure I'm going to run into the decision of going with a 302 based engine or moving up to a 351. More horsepower with less strain on the engine but of course more money and will have to move up to a TKO trans.
Will see what they have to offer.
Thanks

A built 351 you might as well go 408 or 427, but then you'll need a **** ton of chassis, suspension, transmission and brake work. A nice little 347 would be less trouble in terms of money spent on other parts (though you still need upgrades to handle the power), and you'll have a chance to learn to drive the car with more power.
You may to to also consider just getting a decent little 302 with some heads etc, 350-400hp at the crank can be had rather easily from a 302 these days.
