Default loose shifter

I have just acquired a 67 mustang coupe to fix up and sell. the only thing really wrong aside from a good paint rub is the auto shifter. it is really loose and floppy. it has a console which I removed to see if I could find /fix the problem. the nut that holds the shifter handle was as tight as it would be. so I took it off to see what was what. it appears that there might be a bushing of sorts either missing or worn. I can't get the handle to come off to see. I need some help. is there a parts break down for this? and how do you get the shifter off? any advice would be most appreciated. thanks

You can get this bushing kit for $6.95 and it should take care of it -

Most Mustang vendors have them for about the same price

okay looks like it might do the trick, but how do you get the handle off the stud?

I have the same exact problem. Is your plate which tells you what position its in taken off? The one that says P-R-N-D, if it is that is your problem!!! Mine was loose as could be with the plate of and sturdy with it on because it can no longer go sideways.

To remove the shifter you have to unscrew the alen key on the front of the handle. Slide the indicator plate off, and use a 9/16 or 5/8 box wrench to remove the shifters bolt.

Sorry - I sent the wrong link - but you might want to replace those, too -
