Default Another Problem...

So the PO of my 1965 fastback didn't install a parking brake. It's a pain in the but having to pull it out of the garage onto the street to let it warm up and always having to find a flat parking space to make sure I don't roll when trying to start her. So i asked the local mustang shop to quote me a price to have a parking bake installed and I got a quote of $400.00 in parts and unknown labor. So labor could run the total price to get this done to about $1k. Does this sound right to you guys?

I suppose it depends on if any of the original equipment is still in place. $600 sounds crazy high for labor when it's something that you can do given time and patience. I would love to see the part list.

Is the handle still in the cabin or is that missing as well?

Seems way high to me. I'd buy the parts and install myself.

As far as I can tell it was completely removed.

I guess I don't know my password to my photobucket account so here is what was on the quote. I am guessing that there are two different amounts. One for all new which is the top part "or" one quote for new and used parts. Then the quote just totaled everything together.

Parking brake assembly with handle - $95.00
Front parking brake cable - 30.00
DS/LH and PS?RH Rear parking brake cables (x2) - $90.00
Parking brake Equalizer lever - $35.00
Parking Brake lever spring - 12.00
Parking Brake equalizer rod - 16.00
Parking brake equalizer - $18.00
-OR-
New parking brake handle - $12.00
Used parking brake assembly - 75.00

What could the labor cost be on the install for something like this?

A few to several hours.
Know anyone with one installed nearby to get an idea?

So it looks like his parts total is $386. Looking online you could buy it for about $255. It's really not a difficult thing to install if you're at all mechanically inclined.

Does the parts list look accurate? If so I will get all the parts myself and install the easy stuff like the handle and let someone with a little more know how do the rest. There are two things on my car that I won't work on, breaks and wiring...

Parts list looks correct. Everything besides the handle can be bought as a single kit.

Honestly if you can install the handle the rest of it is easier than that. I understand your concern about working on brakes though.
