Default Need help with my distributor and Starter issues

1967 mustang coupe
302/5.0 1980 truck engine
Auto c4
Did every thing to swap this engine and have ran into every issue. Issue 1 which I will need guidance! My mid engine plate/bell housing plate did not match up with my starter I guess it was made for the larger c4 bell housing and different starter. My fix was cut the starter part out of the plate to fit my 67 starter and used washers to shim it in place oh the missing mid engine plate, right, wrong or just flat dumb. Finial issue my distributor came out of my old 66 289 that I had in the car will it work in this engine? The engine is completely stock. Should I buy a starter for a 1980 f150 with a 302

Default fixed it

Cutting the bell housing plate was a good idea. If I didn't the starter would push the plate in and hit the counter weight on the flexplate. With that said because the bellhousing plate was made for the bigger c4 housing and flexplate the smaller flexplate still hit the bellhousing plate were it curves in a little bit. so I just cut that section also.

Starter issue was the 66 starter I had that went to my 66 289 engine was 1/16 of an inch short at the nose and the gear was also 1/16 inch smaller so the 1980 starter had to be used on the 1980 5.0.

distributor was good I was just unsure of the type I had at first.
